A 3 min read What’s your name and where do you come from? My name is Candace Valente-Phillips and I am from Massachusetts, specifically a town called Acton about 20 miles Northwest of Boston. Do you have a family and what’s your profession? I am married to an amazing woman named Samantha. We have been together for 19 years and we have 6 children from ages 11 to 34! I am expecting my first grandchild in a couple of weeks! I am a registered OBGYN nurse by profession but I am currently and happily retired!!! Woop Woop!! How did you get introduced to PLT? Well, that’s a long story!!! Actually I met both Patti and Paul through Facebook about 3 years ago. I was drawn to and inspired by both of them in different ways. Especially seeing their (at the time) recent and real-life transformations. I can honestly say without them I wouldn’t be where I am today! Who is your coach? The one and only Patti Lawson!!! Name 3 things that sum up your thoughts on your coach 1.Relatable 2.Inspirational 3.Jacked Are you engaged in regular exercise/a sport? I do Crossfit usually 5 days a week. I also do strength training 3 days a week. Along with that, I go on adventures with my wife and children. They have introduced me to hiking, spinning, mountain biking, rock climbing, camping, kayaking and whatever is next out there!! How did you find your PLT onboarding experience & community experience? It’s been great. I’ve been with PLT from the beginning. This is a life learning process and I am so grateful. I can honestly say that my coach and this community have enabled me to make consistent long term changes in leading a balanced and healthy life nutritionally, physically and emotionally as well. What dieting programs had you tried previously and what makes PLT standout from previous programs? In my whole life?? Haha, It’s a long list .. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, HCG Diet, Atkins, Low Carb, Low Fat, South Beach, Blood Type, Nutri System to name a few. PLT stands out because I don’t even think of it as a diet. It’s more like life coaching. Inspiring me to enjoy life while being strong and healthy. What was your driving reason for joining PLT? I had lost a good amount of weight with another macro-based program but I wanted to learn and be fully supported to get to a healthy weight for me and to maintain it without "being on a diet" the rest of my life. How much weight have you lost with PLT? About 10lbs but more important is how I feel in my body and how I feel about myself. What non-scale successes have you found since joining PLT? Compared to a year ago? I am as strong as hell! I’m 61 years old and I can do righteous push-ups. I can run without feeling like I’m going to die. I can stack wood with ease. I can deadlift more than my body weight. Oh, I can climb up a rope! I held the longest plank at my gym beating a 35-year-old. I can do a chin up and soon I’ll be able to do a strict pull-up! And that was all since joining PLT! How have you increased your nutritional education since PLT? Just by staying active in the private Facebook group, reading the blogs, watching the videos and coaches corners. Listening to my coach. I am a nurse and have a very strong nutritional background. I learn something every week from Paul and Patti. It blows me away. They are on the cutting edge of nutrition education. Whats 1 piece of advice would you give to people considering joining PLT or new members? Start where you are. Time will keep moving. If you work with it you will accomplish things you never imagined! Your turn now; what 1 thing would you like to ask me? How do you keep motivated? Like who motivates you? Do you ever have a day you just pig out? Ever? Or go off the wagon? I know that’s more than one question I cheated!!!! Hi Candace, thanks for the question!
Initially I was kept motivated by the fear of regaining the 70lb I lost, I knew I never wanted to return to how I had become. Eventually over time it faded, as I knew I wouldn’t return that way. I really enjoy the gym. I got really into the gym when I was 13, and would attend the local powerlifting gym and squat with the men. I enjoy being in the gym environment and I enjoy the process of lifting - if I had my way I’d spend most of my day there! I do pig out for sure but I don’t really enjoy junk foods or eating out, so my pig out is usually eating a large bowl of cereal and a bagel with PB! I don’t really fall off the wagon, well I don’t think I’m ever actually on a wagon as such. I just generally eat in a certain way, not crazy healthy but not unhealthy either and I’m very consistent. I’ll enjoy a few burgers each year, maybe a couple slices of pizza too, but otherwise I eat same foods. Oh and I don’t consume alcohol, I stopped nearly 3 years ago now. Tks Paul A 3 minute read What’s your name and where do you come from? Brenda Ross, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Do you have a family and what’s your profession? I have a 30-year-old son, been married to my husband Steve for 33 years this August 15. I am a personal trainer and virtual assistant. How did you get introduced to PLT?
I have a friend Lynn Jenkins who was working with PLT and I followed her amazing journey. It was a no-brainer that they were who I was going to work with when I needed help. Who is your coach? The amazing, beautiful, inspirational Patti Lawson Name 3 things that sum up your thoughts on your coach Just three? 1. Very Supportive 2. Flexible (my training requires this) 3. Patient (I can be a lot to work with sometimes) Are you engaged in regular exercise/a sport? Yes, since I was in my 20's. I currently am a triathlete but I also like to trail run, snowshoe run and nordic ski and I hit the weight room 2-3 x a week. How did you find your PLT onboarding experience & community experience? I was processed very quickly with regards to my onboarding and was added to the community Facebook page where I started to interact immediately and in return feel like I am getting to know the PLT team of members. What dieting programs had you tried previously and what makes PLT standout from previous programs? I have tried just about every way of eating mostly because I have always had stomach issues growing up as a kid. I have tried food combining, high carb/low fat, low fat/high carb, Paleo and my most recent diet was Vegan Keto which I did for 2-3 years I think. I am still vegan as I feel best not eating animal products. What makes PLT different is that it is not a prescribed diet. It is so much more. 1. You are prescribed macro numbers that are determined from the discussion you have with your coach about your goals. 2. You get a weekly check-in where your coach reviews not only your macros for the week, but your sleep, water intake, exercise, and energy levels to see how your body is responding to the prescribed macros, and if needed they are modified. 3. You are in a private facebook group where the members are very supportive and engaging and where the coaches share relevant content on a regular basis, so you are learning all the time What was your driving reason for joining PLT? I hit menopause and gained weight and what was working for me in the past was not working for me anymore. I had to come to the conclusion that I needed someone to help me navigate my new reality and still be able to fuel myself for my sport. How much weight have you lost with PLT? My goal was 10lbs as that is my race weight, but I am now about 5 pounds over that weight, which is where I like to stay when I am in what we call my out season. Maintaining my weight through the winter months is my goal at the moment. When I get about 12 weeks away from my race my focus will shift to trying to reach my race weight. What non-scale successes have you found since joining PLT? I have stabilized my blood sugar levels - they used to be all out of wack How have you increased your nutritional education since PLT? I see now that I do not need to eat as much as I thought I had to for my sport and how important the role of water is in my diet for energy and weight loss/maintenance. I am continuing to learn on a daily basis thanks to the content that is shared by the coaches in the private facebook group. What 1 piece of advice would you give to people considering joining PLT or new members? If considering joining, do not wait, it is well worth it. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can meet your goals. New member - fill that tracker out on a daily basis and be honest with your coach and yourself. Your turn now; what 1 thing would you like to ask me? How did you decide that starting your own business was the right choice for you and what was your biggest concern? Hi Brenda, tks for the question! This is a GREAT question. I began PLT by chance....Having once been considerably overweight, I lost 70lb and found my passion for nutrition & training. I was a member of various nutrition groups where I became friends with many people, Coach Patti being one! Many of the people I became friends with were paying for nutrition coaching but were coming to me for help, over the months I was actually quasi coaching many people for free. Eventually my wife said 'hey, why don't you charge for your service' and I thought about it and decided I would give it a try. I begin by coaching a few people and it grew very quickly! After approx. 5 months I needed help and turned to Coach Patti, who had a similar nutrition coaching business, and asked if she would coach for PLT! The rest as they say.. It was never my intention to have a business, all I wanted to do was to coach 'some people' and help change their lives. Now I find I am running a growing nutrition & training business and at times I need to pinch myself, take a step back, and take stock of what the team has achieved in the first full year. Tks Paul, for taking the time to share your PLT experiences with the community and staff Paul |
