What’s your name and where do you come from?
I'm Marie and I live in Warwick, NY about an hour north of NYC.
Do you have a family and what’s your profession?
I'm married to Rob (who now does PLT too) for 10 years and we have two kids age 7 and 5. I've been a high school art teacher since 2003!
How did you get introduced to PLT?
I joined a CF gym in town and Patti was my CF coach! I had been going there for a bit and wasn't seeing the weight loss results I wanted so when a friend suggested I reach out to Patti...the rest is history:)
Who is your coach?
Speaking of Ms. Patti she's amazing!! Without Patti's insight, wisdom and guidance my journey's success would not be possible.
Name 3 things that sum up your thoughts on your coach
I'm def into this new CF arena- lifting weights and challenging myself in new ways is kick ass.
How did you find your PLT onboarding experience & community experience?
Perfect! There's def a good balance of community yet I also enjoy the privacy and 1-1 communication I have with Patti. I'm not a big "sharer" so I like being able to talk to her one on one.
What dieting programs had you tried previously and what makes PLT standout from previous programs?
I've been a Weight Watcher member with decent success in the past. The most important differences between the two are, PLT is an education about food/macros- I've learned so much about how food is not just about calories but the type of calorie is really important. PLT also really addresses the psychology and mindfulness of a healthy lifestyle and lastly, for me, a more personalized "me-focused" plan- it's tailored to suit specific goals and being able to speak with Patti privately has helped me so much..
What was your driving reason for joining PLT?
After having children I was in a bad-habits funk. I never figured out how to get back into routines for myself like working out and planning meals and making my eating plan a priority like I had done pre-children. I wasn't living my best life and having never done something like this before I was up for the new experience.
How much weight have you lost with PLT?
What non-scale successes have you found since joining PLT?
This is something that I haven't even told Patti yet but before I joined PLT my primary doctor wanted to put me on anti-depressants at my last yearly physical. I told him give me one year and I'm turning this ship around- I knew in my heart, having never suffered from mental health issues, my lack of exercise and feeling terrible about myself physically was effecting me mentally. PLT has literally given me a new lease on life and a profound happiness that goes so far beyond the scale. It gave me the push and support I needed to dig deep and find the me I had lost touch with. I'm so excited to see him in August 40 lbs lighter but 1000 times happier!
How have you increased your nutritional education since PLT?
I didn't even know what a macro was before PLT!! Now I realize it's not just about calories but what type of calorie is what counts- an education that will last a lifetime!
What 1 piece of advice would you give to people considering joining PLT or new members?
If you really want to learn how to be the best possible you mentally and physically, join this community, learn from your coach and you are basically signing up to never be on a diet ever again and feel awesome.

It all looks to come to you so easy- your food choices and exercise regime always look so focused and achieved with ease- you consistently look so motivated to go out and slay every day. Was there ever a time in your journey where things were a struggle? Where you back tracked, fell into old habits, weren't the perfect PLT student??! What's been the hardest part of your transformation?

When I started my journey I had 70lb to lose and some lifestyle choices to make. Initially restarting working out was a challenge, I started going to CF at 5.30am as I knew when I came home from work I would create reasons for why I couldn't go... So the initial weeks were hard but my dear friend Jason kept reminding me I could do this. The weight fell off really quickly. I had made a few nutritional adjustments but mainly it was from reducing drinking wine.
I always enjoyed weight training, although clearly I hadn't worked out for many years, so CF really piqued my interest again.
I love LOVE to train, I really do. I know as a trainer the importance of rest days...but I go to the gym 7 days a week and generally take a day off when my body needs it every month or so. I just ensure not every day is super hard. To do that I periodize my training hard/moderate/easy. Training is my life and nutrition stoked my passions for training and to help others.
As for nutrition, I don't have a sweet tooth and rarely eat 'junk' food. It's not something I have ever enjoyed. I also don't have a super health-conscious diet, I eat balanced but regular foods. I do have a lot of self-control and always use the scale and the mirror to gauge my eating. I have always found maintenance somewhat easy. This is something I teach our PLT clients, maintenance is a weight range and you should allow for weight fluctuations and use the scale as a handbrake; see the scale a little too high, eat less until it drops to where you like it then resume eating more.
My challenge was always wine, I could easily fall back into drinking midweek instead of just weekends, it was always a work in progress; I was 'fit' and could run a half marathon and I had abs but for me removing alcohol a few years ago was the final piece in my jigsaw and this brought about so many more changes than the physical people see.
